LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigerian TikToker Habeeb “Peller” Hamzat has voiced his exasperation regarding his family’s sudden and extensive involvement in social media, occurring just days after his wedding to fellow content creator Amadou “Jarvis” Aminata.
The 21-year-old content creator, speaking during a livestream on Tuesday night, detailed his dissatisfaction with his parents' actions at his recent white wedding ceremony. He also addressed a widely circulated video that reportedly showed his father in a hotel room with another man.
Peller stated that the attention directed at his family had become excessive, noting that his parents and siblings had unexpectedly become prominent figures in online discussions.
“I don’t know what’s wrong; all my family members are now on social media. My father, mother, sisters and everybody have now turned into social media users overnight. I’m currently angry with them. I’m tired of their behaviour; they should just leave me alone,” he said.
Peller and Jarvis celebrated their union through multiple ceremonies. These began with a court and civil wedding on July 29, followed by a traditional wedding on August 1, and concluded with a white wedding on August 8, all held in Lagos.
Reflecting on the white wedding, Peller alleged that his parents had not adhered to his request for a limited guest list. He claimed his mother invited her boyfriend and his father invited his girlfriend, transforming the event into a large party.
“During my white wedding, I told them to invite only a few people, but my mother came with her boyfriend, and my father came with his girlfriend, and turned my wedding into a party,” he stated.
He further elaborated on his family background, saying, “A polygamous family is a very bad thing. There are extended and nuclear families, but I come from a polygamous one; my father married more than one wife, and that’s my problem.”
Peller also directly addressed the viral video purportedly showing his father sharing a hotel bed with another man. This video had fueled speculation online concerning his father’s sexual orientation.
The TikToker refuted claims that his father is gay. However, he admitted to being currently unhappy with his father’s actions and the resulting public attention.
“You people who are calling my daddy gay because of the viral video of him in a hotel with a man on the same bed, how did he father me if he’s gay? I’m currently angry with him, and I’ve informed him that I’m not happy with him,” Peller explained.
