ILESA, Nigeria — Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday combined the commissioning of a dualised road in Ilesa with a public commitment to upgrade the Osun State College of Health Technology to a full Polytechnic of Health.

The traditional ruler of Ijeshaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, raised the request during the event, presenting it as a key development need for the area. Adeleke accepted the demand on the spot and said his administration would pursue the upgrade.

The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, several commissioners and other state officials. The Students’ Union Government President of the college, Comrade Badiru Rohees Olawale, proactive comrades and student leaders, was also present on behalf of the students.

Established in 1977, the College of Health Technology currently runs as a monotechnic with programmes in community health, medical laboratory, environmental health, dental technology, health information management and related fields. Calls for its elevation to polytechnic status have been made over the years to broaden courses and improve opportunities for graduates.

The dualised road forms part of the state government’s township infrastructure programme. Specific details of the exact section commissioned and its full technical specifications were not independently confirmed at the time of filing this report.

The visit took place as campaign activities continue across Osun State ahead of the 15 August governorship election.
