Gistorbit takes accuracy seriously. Despite our rigorous editorial process, errors sometimes occur. This policy explains how we identify, correct and communicate corrections transparently to our readers.

Our Commitment

When we publish factually inaccurate information, we correct it promptly. We do not delete or silently edit articles to hide mistakes. Every correction is disclosed clearly so readers understand what changed and why.

How to Report an Error

If you find an error in our reporting, please contact us with the following:

  • The URL of the article containing the error
  • A description of the specific error
  • The correct information
  • Supporting evidence (documents, links, official sources) where available
  • Your name and contact information (for follow-up questions)

Send corrections requests to:
Email: info@gistorbit.com.ng
Subject line: "Correction: [Article Title]"

Our Correction Process

Step 1: Investigation (within 24 hours)

Our editorial team reviews every correction request within 24 hours of receipt. We investigate:

  • Whether the reported error is factually incorrect
  • The source of the original information
  • The impact of the error on the overall story
  • Whether additional context or clarification is needed

Step 2: Correction (within 48 hours)

If we confirm an error, we take immediate action based on the severity:

Minor Corrections

Typos, misspellings, or small factual errors that do not change the story's meaning are corrected inline. A brief editor's note is added at the bottom of the article indicating what was corrected.

Significant Corrections

Errors that affect the accuracy or interpretation of the story are handled with:

  • A prominent correction notice at the top of the article
  • The corrected information clearly integrated into the article
  • A dated editor's note explaining what was corrected
  • The article URL remains unchanged

Major Corrections

When errors fundamentally change a story, we may:

  • Rewrite the article with a comprehensive correction notice
  • Publish a separate correction article for maximum visibility
  • Notify readers who commented on or shared the original article, where possible

Step 3: Communication

All corrections are publicly disclosed. We do not silently modify articles. The person who reported the error receives an email confirmation of the correction.

Types of Post-Publication Changes

Corrections

Fixes to factual errors. Always disclosed with an editor's note.

Updates

Additions of new information as a developing story evolves. Marked with "UPDATED" and timestamp at the top of the article.

Clarifications

Rewording to prevent misinterpretation where the original was technically accurate but unclear. Marked with a brief clarification note.

Retractions

In rare cases where an entire article is fundamentally wrong or based on false information, we retract it. The original URL displays a retraction notice explaining what was wrong and why the article has been withdrawn.

What We Do NOT Do

  • We do not delete articles to hide errors
  • We do not modify articles without disclosure
  • We do not remove corrections notices after publication
  • We do not change article URLs to bury mistakes

Handling Disputed Facts

Sometimes readers disagree with our reporting but the facts themselves are accurate. In these cases, we:

  • Review the article for balance and fairness
  • Verify our sources
  • Consider whether a follow-up article representing another perspective is warranted
  • Respond directly to the reader explaining our reasoning

We do not issue corrections for editorial opinions, interpretive analysis, or reporting that some readers may disagree with — only for verifiable factual errors.

Editorial Discretion

Final decisions on corrections rest with our editorial team. In cases of dispute, senior editorial staff review the request and make a final determination. We reserve the right to decline corrections that lack supporting evidence or request changes to opinion pieces.

Sources of Original Errors

When an error stems from official sources providing incorrect information (e.g., government press releases, official statements), we correct our article AND note that the original source has been informed of the discrepancy.

Anonymous Complaints

We investigate all correction requests, including anonymous ones. However, providing contact information helps us follow up if additional details are needed.
