GIREI, Nigeria — The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man identified as Ali Haruna in connection with the alleged murder of a woman at No Vex Hotel in Girei Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026. Police operatives from Girei Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a report of an altercation at the hotel.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim with severe injuries and in a pool of blood. She was promptly taken to a medical facility, where a doctor on duty confirmed her death.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, preliminary investigations suggest the suspect has made statements claiming responsibility for the act. However, the police are treating these statements as part of an ongoing investigation to establish the exact circumstances and motive behind the incident.
The police also reported the recovery of a knife, believed to be the weapon used in the commission of the offense, from the suspect. This item will be treated as an exhibit.
Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. He directed them to conduct a discreet, thorough, and professional investigation to ensure justice.
The command assured the public that anyone found culpable would face the full extent of the law. They urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from engaging in jungle justice while the investigation proceeds.
An eyewitness at the scene told Weekend Punch on Saturday that the suspect had lodged at the hotel, which is reportedly owned by a retired police officer, on Friday afternoon. The alleged murder took place around 5 p.m. the same day.
The eyewitness further claimed that the suspect confessed to the killing, stating that the deceased was the third person he had killed this year. This claim is part of the ongoing police investigation.
