KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has reported substantial progress in its efforts to combat crime, announcing the interception of illegal firearms and the apprehension of several suspects involved in armed robbery and cattle theft over the past two days.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed these achievements in a statement released on Saturday on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim Bakori. The operations led to the recovery of illegal arms and ammunition, the arrest of five suspected armed robbers, and the recovery of stolen livestock.

On August 13, 2026, at approximately 2:30 PM, a tip from a concerned citizen resulted in the discovery of a Tokarev pistol loaded with 48 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. The weapon was found concealed within a parcel of luggage.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to purchasing the firearm and ammunition from another state with the intention of delivering them to an individual in a different location. The police stated that an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal arms supply network.

In a separate incident on the same day, also around 2:30 PM, operatives from the Rogo Police Division, acting on intelligence, arrested five individuals identified as suspected armed robbers. The arrested men were identified as Basiru Ibrahim, 25; Saidu Madaki, 23; Sa’adu Ibrahim, 25; Lawan Yusuf, 24; and Muktar Salisu, 21, all reportedly residing at the same address.

Preliminary investigations suggest that these suspects have been implicated in at least four separate incidents involving criminal trespass, conspiracy, and armed robbery in Jajaye Village and its surrounding areas. These alleged crimes reportedly resulted in victims sustaining various serious injuries.

The suspects also confessed to stealing approximately five motorcycles and other valuable items. The police confirmed that their investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will face charges in court once the inquiry is complete.

Furthermore, on the same day, officers from the Gaya Division successfully recovered a stolen cow and a ram. The recovery followed the interception of Karimu Mamman and Madama, both males from Jube Village, who were allegedly found in possession of the animals. The police later arrested two additional individuals believed to be part of the same criminal syndicate, and they have since been charged in court.

The Commissioner of Police commended the residents of Kano State for their vigilance and for providing timely information that contributed to these successful operations. He also expressed his appreciation for the dedication, professionalism, and commitment demonstrated by the officers and men of the Dorayi Babba, Rogo, and Gaya divisions.

The statement further noted that these successes align with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, emphasizing robust community policing, intelligence-led operations, and proactive crime prevention strategies.
