LAGOS, Nigeria — A fire outbreak at Purple Crown Hotel, located on Balogun Street, Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos, has been successfully contained by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency services. The incident, which occurred on Saturday morning, resulted in no casualties or injuries.

The LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the fire was reported at 9:52 am. The agency's response team, alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police, arrived at the scene within ten minutes of receiving the distress call.

Upon arrival, responders found that a room on the first floor of the hotel had been significantly affected by the fire. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical fault within the room may have triggered the blaze, causing substantial fire and smoke damage to a section of the building.

All hotel guests and staff were safely evacuated to a designated muster point. A roll call was conducted under the supervision of the response team and police officers to ensure everyone was accounted for and safe. The fire was brought under control and extinguished through the collaborative efforts of LASEMA, the fire service, and the police.

The joint operation focused on containing the fire, preventing its spread to adjacent rooms, and ensuring the safety of occupants and responders. As a precautionary measure due to the volume of smoke and the extent of the damage, access to the entire building was restricted following the incident.

The affected section of the hotel remains cordoned off pending a detailed structural and electrical integrity assessment by relevant authorities. Normal operations will only resume after clearance from safety officials.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu commended the emergency responders for their speed, professionalism, and inter-agency collaboration, which he stated prevented escalation and protected lives and property. He urged hotel operators, facility managers, and business owners to prioritize regular electrical maintenance, install and service fire suppression equipment, and train staff on emergency evacuation procedures.
