ABEOKUTA, Nigeria — The National Association of Nigerian Students, Southwest Zone D, has announced that its leadership will arrive in Ogun State on July 29 to press for stronger student security following the killing of Ahmed Sekinat.

Sekinat, an HND II Marketing student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, was killed during a robbery attack in the Eruku student community.

NANS said it is taking its campaign for student safety directly to the state. The association plans to inspect the affected community and engage security authorities over what it described as repeated failures to protect students.

It stated that the era of issuing only condolence messages after every attack must end. According to the association, students deserve practical security measures rather than promises.

Key demands include improved security around campuses, the arrest of the perpetrators, justice for victims, and long-term reforms to prevent future attacks.

NANS also called on students taking part in the mobilisation to remain peaceful, disciplined and law-abiding while demanding justice for their colleague.

The association ended its statement with the message: “Justice for Sekinat. Secure Our Students. Enough Is Enough.”
