NIGERIA — Former Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has reportedly agreed to become the new head coach of the Netherlands national team. An agreement was said to have been signed on Wednesday.

This appointment would signify Xavi’s return to management and his first role at the international level. The Spanish coach is now expected to lead the Oranje after reaching terms with the Dutch football authorities.

Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday that “Xavi has agreed to become the new Dutch national team head coach, a done deal. Agreement signed today for former Barcelona head coach.”

Xavi, who established his managerial reputation at Barcelona, is recognized for a possession-based playing style heavily influenced by the footballing philosophy of Johan Cruyff. This move will see one of Spain’s most prominent modern midfielders attempt to implement his tactical approach on the international stage.

Previously, former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot had revealed his decision against accepting the vacant Netherlands manager position, stating his preference to remain in club football.
