ABUJA, Nigeria — Troops operating under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD have successfully repelled an advance by terrorists attempting to enter Niger State from Zamfara. The operation resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and 398 rounds of ammunition.

The Nigerian military received credible intelligence regarding the movement of terrorists. Approximately 200 motorcycles were reportedly used by the militants as they headed towards Inana Village in the Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.

Troops from the 311 Army Reconnaissance Battalion, under the 18 Brigade, intercepted the terrorists in the villages of Majai and Tungan Bisallah. The engagement forced the militants to retreat.

During the confrontation, soldiers recovered one AK-47 rifle. They also seized 395 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammunition and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Additionally, one motorcycle belonging to the terrorists was recovered, and six others were destroyed by the troops.

The operation was not without cost, as one soldier sustained injuries. In a separate but related operation, troops were mobilized towards Genu Village in response to intelligence about terrorist activities. However, they did not make contact with any fleeing terrorists.

In Borno State, troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force, conducted an operation on August 10. This operation led to the killing of a suspected ISWAP logistics courier and informant in Dallaballe Village, Gujba Local Government Area. The action was based on human intelligence gathered about the suspect's activities.

Further afield in Taraba State, troops from the 93 Battalion, in collaboration with a Defence Intelligence Agency team, conducted a raid. They recovered an AK-47 rifle and 10 rounds of 5.45 x 39mm NATO ammunition from the residence of a suspected gunrunner in Bantaje, Wukari Local Government Area.

In Abia State, troops involved in Operation UDO KA raided a transport company located in Aba South Local Government Area. The operation was prompted by suspicions of the movement of military camouflage and other accoutrements. This raid resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of a luxury bus owned by the company.
