IKEJA, Nigeria — The Lagos State Government has committed to supporting the Miss Surulere Beauty Heritage Pageant, offering partnership and assistance for community development projects. The state’s Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Idris Aregbe, conveyed this pledge during a meeting with pageant contestants and organizers at the Alausa Secretariat in Ikeja.

Aregbe stated that the government is keen to back initiatives that promote tourism, culture, youth development, and the unique identity of Surulere. He encouraged organizers and contestants to utilize their platform to foster significant positive change.

He assured the organizers that the necessary governmental approvals and documentation would be expedited to facilitate their activities. “On our part, we want to add our full support. We’re willing and ready to give all the support you need,” Aregbe said.

The Special Adviser also indicated that efforts would be made to ensure continued involvement from the government and relevant partners in key activities related to the pageant. He commended the organizers for their role in promoting culture and creating avenues for diverse individuals to contribute to community betterment.

Addressing the contestants, Aregbe urged them to view the pageant as more than just a beauty contest. He highlighted their potential to develop and champion ideas that could address social issues within their communities. He advised them to take initiative in bringing their ideas to fruition rather than waiting for external opportunities.

Furthermore, Aregbe emphasized the importance of preserving Surulere’s heritage and identity. He encouraged contestants to remain connected to their roots, noting that this connection would be a significant part of their legacy. “Your own identity is what people will remember you by,” he added.

Aregbe also revealed that potential partnerships with Chinese and other international entities are being explored for the pageant winner. He clarified that opportunities would extend beyond the winner to contestants who demonstrate readiness, potential, and commitment.

Mr. Adebayo Adegbe, the Show Producer, shared that contestants are undergoing comprehensive training in areas such as etiquette, poise, public speaking, and runway presentation. This training aims to build their confidence and equip them with skills for personal and professional success.

Adegbe mentioned that contestants would have opportunities to interact with role models and local government officials concerning tourism, providing valuable networking and mentorship experiences. The initiative is designed to empower contestants to transform their ideas into tangible projects with institutional backing.

The organizers announced that the winner of the pageant will receive a cash prize of N1.5 million. The first and second runners-up will be awarded N1 million and N500,000, respectively. Additional prizes valued at approximately N2 million will be distributed among other participants, and the winner will also receive a three-day stay at the Transcorp Hotel.
