ILORIN, Nigeria — Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have apprehended Muhamodu Sanni, who is linked to a suspected kidnapping syndicate operating around the Obudu/Woru axis in Ilorin East Local Government Area. Sanni was reportedly arrested while attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds from a recent abduction at a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal.

The arrest, detailed in a statement on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, followed intelligence gathering. The police initiated an investigation after three individuals were abducted during an armed invasion of Obudu Village on July 28, 2026.

Ejire-Adeyemi stated that investigators expanded their focus beyond the immediate crime scene to examine the financial, logistical, and communication channels supporting the criminal operation. This strategy led to the interception of Sanni at a POS location as he allegedly tried to access funds connected to the kidnapping.

During interrogation, Sanni reportedly cooperated with investigators and disclosed his involvement in collecting the ransom. He also identified two other syndicate members, Aminu and Umar, providing additional leads for the police.

The statement indicated that these disclosures have enhanced the police's understanding of the syndicate's network and provided further operational directions that are currently being pursued.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, reassured residents of the command's commitment to disrupting criminal networks. He urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support the police's efforts.
