OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, announced on Wednesday that his legal team has submitted a petition to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu. The petition addresses alleged threats made against him by Francis Eniade, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo Otin Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Egbedun stated in Osogbo that this action is not driven by political vendetta but is intended to safeguard lives, uphold the law, and protect the integrity of Nigeria's democracy.

He expressed deep concern over threats attributed to Senator Ade Fadahunsi and Eniade, alleging they have threatened individuals not affiliated with the APC with violence and death.

“No threat to life should be treated lightly, irrespective of the political party or individual involved,” Egbedun declared. He confirmed that his lawyers have formally lodged the petition with the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant authorities.

The Speaker expressed confidence that the Inspector-General would act promptly, conduct a thorough investigation, and ensure the matter is not ignored.

Egbedun urged Osun residents to remain calm and not be fearful, encouraging eligible voters to support the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke. He assured the public that efforts would continue to protect citizens and the sanctity of votes through lawful and democratic channels.

Reports indicate that Senator Francis Fadahunsi and APC candidate Francis Eniade faced criticism on Tuesday for allegedly issuing threats against Accord Party members ahead of a forthcoming governorship poll.

A video circulating on social media on Tuesday captured Senator Fadahunsi speaking in Yoruba, stating that any Accord member found in Ilesha before the election would be killed. Sources present at the event, which reportedly took place at the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland's palace during a protest, confirmed the Senator's remarks.

In a separate viral video, Eniade, addressing an APC campaign rally, instructed Accord Party members not to vote in the Odo Otin local government area on election day. He also stated that all votes in Odo-Otin belong to the APC and warned that anyone not an APC member should not be seen outside on election day.

Eniade also directly addressed Speaker Egbedun, dismissing him and asserting that the Accord Party would not be allowed to vote in Odo-Otin.

In response to Fadahunsi's alleged threats, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke reportedly called for the Senator's arrest, warning that such statements could incite mass violence.
