OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Osun State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has rejected the proposed use of uncustomised ballot papers and result sheets for the August 15, 2026, governorship election. The council, comprising registered political parties in the state, stated that employing such materials could erode confidence in the electoral process.

IPAC's stance follows a July 22, 2026, court judgment involving the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which the council believes has implications for electoral material preparation. In a statement issued by its caretaker committee chairman, Odesola Oluseye Titus, the council urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to adhere to the judgment and ensure all materials for the election meet required specifications.

“Customised ballot papers and result sheets are necessary to safeguard the credibility and transparency of the election,” the statement read. “The commission should not proceed with materials that did not comply with the applicable electoral requirements.”

The council emphasized that proceeding with uncustomised materials is unacceptable, particularly after a court ruling impacting election integrity. “We demand accountability and adherence to the rule of law and to the Electoral Act 2026, as amended. Every political party deserves a fair process,” Odesola added.

He suggested that INEC should have acted on the court judgment earlier to ensure election materials complied with specifications. Failure to address this issue, he warned, could cast doubt on the August 15 poll's conduct. The IPAC chairman urged the commission to take immediate corrective measures.

Furthermore, Odesola alleged that Pauline Ugoyenka, identified as the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ebonyi State, was present in Osogbo despite not being assigned to the state. He called for an investigation and potential sanctions by the INEC Chairman if electoral rules were breached.

“We stand united in our stance, there is no room for compromise when it comes to the democratic rights of the people of Osun State,” Titus stated. “We urge the Commission to take immediate steps to rectify this situation and conduct the election using fully customised ballot papers and result sheets.”

Osun IPAC affirmed its commitment to monitoring developments and advocating for a fair and transparent electoral process. Meanwhile, the distribution of sensitive electoral materials, initially scheduled for Thursday, was postponed. This delay is reportedly due to the inclusion of the Osun SDP governorship and deputy governorship candidates. Musa Olurode, the Osun INEC spokesperson, informed DAILY POST that the distribution would commence on a date yet to be announced.
