OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Commissioner of Police overseeing the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, Samuel Etaifo, announced that Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has been summoned by the police. This action follows comments reportedly made by the lawmaker concerning members of the Accord Party.

Etaifo condemned the alleged statement, which suggested that any Accord Party member seen in Ilesa before the governorship election on Saturday should be killed. The Police Commissioner issued a stern warning to political office holders, urging them to desist from making hate-inciting remarks, particularly during the ongoing election period.

“At this critical period of the electoral process, political leaders and public office holders are expected to exercise restraint, promote peace, and refrain from making comments capable of heightening tension or undermining public confidence in the electoral and security arrangements put in place for the forthcoming election,” Etaifo stated.

He emphasized the police's commitment to neutrality, professionalism, and the safeguarding of democratic values. Etaifo stressed that the police would not tolerate any actions, statements, or conduct that could incite violence, disturb public peace, or threaten the state's security.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police has invited Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi to provide clarification on the statement and to foster mutual understanding in the interest of peace and security,” he added. The CP clarified that the invitation is not intended as intimidation but as a proactive measure to prevent escalating tensions and ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and credible governorship election.

The police boss appealed to all political actors, their supporters, and the general public to remain law-abiding. He urged them to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and to address any grievances through legal channels.
