OMU-ARAN, Nigeria — Traditional rulers, local government officials, and residents of Irepodun Local Government Area in Kwara State on Tuesday lauded President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for establishing a new Army battalion in Omu-Aran. They believe this intervention will significantly improve security across Kwara South and the entire state.

During the welcome ceremony for the troops, the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba AbdulRaheem Adeoti, conveyed the community's satisfaction with the new battalion, which is under the command of Lt.-Col. Kehinde Avoseh. Oba Adeoti pledged the community's unwavering support for the battalion's welfare.

“I want to assure you that our support, especially in terms of the welfare of the battalion, will be 100 per cent, by the grace of God. You will enjoy your stay in Omu-Aran,” Oba Adeoti stated. He expressed confidence that the development would usher in continued blessings, security, and progress for the communities.

The monarch also conveyed his appreciation to the military authorities for their decision to maintain the battalion's location in Omu-Aran. The ceremony was attended by several other traditional rulers and community leaders, including the Alara of Aran-Orin, Alaran of Arandun, and Oloko of Oko-Irese.

The Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Abdulazeez Yakub, echoed the sentiments of appreciation towards both the Federal and Kwara State governments for the establishment of the military presence. Yakub assured the Nigerian Army of the local council's full cooperation and support in their operational duties.

“On behalf of the people of Irepodun Local Government, I assure you of our full cooperation and support as you carry out your duties,” Yakub affirmed.

Prince Niyi Adeyeye, President of the Omu-Aran Development Association, highlighted that the deployment of the Army battalion is expected to restore peace and security to the community and the broader Kwara South region. He also commended the efforts of various security agencies, local vigilantes, and community security volunteers for their bravery and dedication.

A retired General and community leader, Lasisi Abidoye, acknowledged the contributions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq in facilitating the establishment of the new battalion. He pledged the full support of the community to the officers and soldiers stationed in Omu-Aran.

Earlier, Brig. Gen. Nicholas Rume, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, thanked the residents of Omu-Aran for the warm reception extended to the military personnel. He explained that the deployment aligns with the Federal Government's directive to enhance the Nigerian Army's operational capabilities nationwide.
