Nigeria has officially retained its status as the most populous country in Africa, with new global demographic projections placing the nation's total population at 242.4 million people.


The updated estimates place Nigeria ahead of Ethiopia and Egypt, which occupy the second and third positions on the continent respectively.


The figures highlight Africa’s status as the world’s fastest-growing continent, driven by a youthful demographic and high urban migration trends.


Economic analysts note that while a young, expanding population presents significant market potential for tech, entertainment, and commerce, it also underlines the urgent need for expanded infrastructure, job creation, and sustainable public services across major commercial hubs like Lagos, Kano, and Port Harcourt.
