OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Osun State Government has officially declared that Comrade Nurudeen (Wakeel) Alowonle and his executive council remain the substantive, recognized leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.

In an official press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government refuted widespread reports claiming that Governor Ademola Adeleke had dissolved or proscribed the union's elected executive structure.

Key Highlights of the Statement

  • No Dissolution of Union Leadership: The state government emphasized that Governor Adeleke at no point dissolved or invalidated the state or local executive committees of the NURTW.
  • Recognized by National Leadership: Comrade Alowonle’s executive council remains the sole recognized leadership structure by both the national body of the union and the Osun State Government.
  • Temporary Security Measure vs. Dissolution: The recent Security Council directive suspended union revenue collection inside motor parks purely as a security measure to curb illegal thuggery; it did not dissolve the legal union executive.
  • Motor Parks Remain Open: Motor parks across Osun State remain open for normal commercial transit and public commuters without disruption.

The official clarification followed misrepresentations of decisions reached during a recent State Security Council meeting presided over by Governor Adeleke.

According to the government, opposition figures and unauthorized factions falsely interpreted the security suspension as an executive dissolution in an attempt to set up an unconstitutional caretaker committee.
